Wanna Hang With The Cool Kids?!

Oh joy! There’s a hot, newish, social media app to wrap your head around. But you can’t just download it and join. You must be invited. Well played, Clubhouse, well played. Definitely piques the interest of those not wanting to suffer the scourge of FOMO.

What Is Clubhouse?

Clubhouse came out last spring as the brainchild of tech industry vets Paul Davison and Rohan Seth. In a nutshell, it is a social networking app where members can gather in an audio chat room to listen in on a wide range of topics while vying for a spot “on stage” if you have something to add to the conversation. As I mentioned before, you have to be invited to join. The app also is only accepting iPhone users at the moment.

Reasons To Be There

It’s not on Zoom! Since it is audio only, one need not wash their hair and get out of their PJs to participate. You get a chance to listen in on exclusive, live content from some of the world’s most renowned experts in their field. Of course, there’s also the celeb factor, where you can be in a room with your DJ heroes Diplo and deadmau5. It’s live and in the moment. I typically listen in when I have a few minutes of downtime in the car while my kids are at soccer practice.

My Experience

I felt like Charlie, winning the Golden Ticket! Not really, but there was some excitement knowing I was invited to an exclusive platform and I had the “power” to invite two people right off the bat. Super easy to set up your profile. Like other platforms, it walks you through your interests and people to follow based on you picking some topics that resonate with you.

The first room I was in felt like it was being moderated by a bunch of douchebags and really turned me off. I also got wind that people are planted in the rooms to beef up the egos of those on stage. There also seems to be a lot of text-messaging going on behind the scenes to prompt the moderator to choose the next speaker.

Since then I have invested more thought into following people and groups that I want to learn more about and the rooms have been a much more enjoyable experience. Plus, if you need to eye roll or laugh, you are free to do so and nobody will know the wiser, just make sure your mic is off.

Want An Invite?

I’m movin’ on up the Clubhouse ladder and now have a whopping 4 invites. Hit me up if you wanna hang with the cool kids!
