To Market We Go | Mind The Gap

Mid the Gap warning on a subway platform

Fill In The Blanks

Last week I wrote about the importance of claiming your Google My Business listing. Hopefully, you got the ball rolling and are waiting for the white postcard to arrive from Google with your verification code. While you wait, mind the gaps, and start educating yourself about all things GMB so that you can optimize your listing and start working your way up the SEO ladder.

Tips For Optimizing Your Listing

  • Choose a specific business category - read this link for more info.

  • Optimize the GMB Description - Aim to use all the characters. Don’t forget to include keywords, the words and phrases your customers are searching for, that you would want to show for in Google.

  • Fill out your attributes & monitor them regularly. Display as much information about your business in GMB Listing - such as hours, payment forms accepted, wheelchair accessibility, products, amenities, etc.

  • Spend time reading as much as you can about GMB or viewing videos on YouTube about how best to optimize your listing.

A Powerful, Free Tool

The bottom line is that Google My Business is a free tool that is very beneficial for your business and how you are viewed and ranked on Google Search and Maps. It takes some time getting to know how it all works. There are bumps in the road and frustrations that will pop up with it as it is a constantly evolving machine. However, if you utilize their Support section and make YouTube videos your friend, you will be ahead of your competition.
