An Unforgettable Birthday

Yesterday was our youngest daughter’s birthday. She was 100% on board with celebrating at home and her sole request was to have ribs for dinner. Done, an easy order to fulfill thanks to Houston’s yummy dinners and easy pick-up process. The presents she wanted all arrived by her birthday, so we were covered.

Surprises Were Brewing

Little did she know what was taking place behind the scenes! Her amazing teacher, Mrs. Hirchert, has had plans in place to celebrate her students who have birthdays while in quarantine. So far, thanks to her efforts, we have taken part in two drive-by birthday celebrations. She leads the caravan of cars (in the 1st picture behind the police escort) and whomever can make it drives by the child’s house, honking and yelling out their birthday wishes.

Each time we experience this, tears of joy bubble up because of friends being united by a teacher who cares so deeply for her students. This woman goes above and beyond the duties of her job. Not only has she “brought it” all year long when she was teaching the traditional way, but she continues to bring it as she has transitioned to the difficult task of distance learning. Thank you, Mrs. Hirchert, for all you are doing. We are eternally grateful to you and the Taylors will never forget your kindness and dedication.

But There’s More

A good friend of ours, Phil Ambrose, Battalion Chief for the city of Glendale’s Fire Department, got wind of these birthday parades and knew that Reagan’s birthday was approaching. He was working his own behind-the-scenes magic to help make her day a memorable one. He let us know that the Redondo Beach Police Department and the Redondo Beach Fire Department would be showing up to the parade as well!

The troops gathered on the street behind us and the parade commenced at 2pm. The RBPD led the parade in their cars, motorcycles and sirens, followed by Mrs. Hirchert, classmates and friends, and the RBFD with their hook and ladder trucks and sirens. Just when we thought the fun was over, Ms. Banks, the class instructional aide, arrived to make the parade complete!

Many Thanks

We can not thank everybody enough for making this birthday one for the books! You have truly touched our hearts and left an indelible memory for Reagan. Kindness is contagious and we look forward to spreading it to everyone we come in contact with.
