At Least When It Comes To Google Ad Recommendations

Don’t get me wrong, Google Ads and I are becoming fast friends. In the past I wouldn’t touch them with a 10 foot pole. I kept making excuses not to use them - they’re too expensive, they’re too complicated to set up, they’re not worth it. But when a client wanted to launch a campaign, I was forced to dive in and learn how to do them. In the process, I utilized their help chats and watched YouTube tutorials from experts.

Where To Get Help

Pre-COVID Google had ad experts you could actually speak to on the phone, who proved to be very helpful. Now they offer live chats, and while there is some downtime as you wait for their replies, they still are able to solve your issues. But the most helpful are YouTube videos. One guy that I turn to is Travis Marziani.

Why You Shouldn’t Blindly Trust

Once I set up the latest ad campaign for my client, I received an email invitation from Google Customer Solutions offering auto applied recommendations to help improve ad performance. Helpful, right? Not so! Thanks to Travis’ advice, I did not follow their suggestions. He explained that what they were suggesting would actually spend the ad budget way faster.

Save Money On Your Ads

I’ve only scratched the surface with Google Ads and there is much more to learn about and I will share as I get more tips. But for now, try these ones to save dough as you set up your next campaign:

  • Uncheck the Search Network box

  • Uncheck the Display Network Box

  • Only target your country

  • Only target Search keywords

What’s Your Experience?

I would love to hear about your successes and learning curve with Google Ads and if you have any insider tips.
